Most households have fridges and we are brought up to think that if you put something in there, it’ll make it last longer (unless it gets eaten up!). However, there are some food groups that actually don’t benefit at all from being refrigerated. Here is a list of some of the most common accidental refrigerated foods.
Whilst putting bread in the fridge may make sense, it will actually dry it out faster than just keeping it out normally. Stick to keeping your bread in a sealed container like a bread bin.
Not only will garlic stink your fridge out, but it will actually sap the taste out of it.
Tomatoes will go off faster in the fridge and they’ll go mushy rather than stay fresh. If you want to get longer life out of your tomatoes, consider purchasing pre-ripe ones
There’s no need to keep honey in the fridge whatsoever, as it has an incredible shelf life. In fact, there’s been stories of finding edible honey buried with ancient Egyptian mummies!
Similarly to tomatoes, keeping them out of the fridge will keep them staying crisp and fresh for longer.
5. GROUND COFFEE
Keeping coffee in your fridge is quite possibly something you do; unfortunately all it does it add to the flavour escaping. Keep your coffee in an air tight container out of the fridge
4. ANY BAKED FOODS
If you’ve been cooking, or even if you’ve bought some local donuts or cookies, then definitely keep them out of the fridge. All a fridge will do is make them go stale faster.
You never see a chef put oil in the fridge, so why should you do it? Keeping oil in the fridge makes it go cloudy and it will harden.
People buy spice racks for a reason. Keep your spices out of the fridge, to keep them… spicy.
1. SOY SAUCE
Although there’s usually a refrigerate after opening label on soy sauce bottles, the amount of salt and other ingredients found inside of it makes it keep for a very long time without refrigeration. [Viralcycle]
