Qatar Emir, Father Emir take part in Sport Day activities

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani participated, along with citizens and residents, in the activities of Qatar National Sport Day.

The Emir visited the Nomas Centre to meet autism children participating in the horse-riding event. The event’s goal is to create a bond between the children with autism and horses. It is the first experiment of its kind in the Middle-East.

The Emir then joined the children in the indoor facility to take part in the different sports such as running, archery and football. The children expressed their delight at the attendance and participation of the Emir in some of the sporting activities with them.

The attendance of HH the Emir reflected his personal commitment to the annual event and the role it plays in raising awareness about leading a healthy lifestyle.

Separately, HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani also participated in Sport Day activities yesterday.

The Father Emir took part in carried walking exercise in Al Shaqab stud farm, reflecting his commitment to promoting the value of a healthy lifestyle. Later the Father Emir watched an Arabian horse show.

HH the Father Emir was accompanied by HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani, HH Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al-Thani, along with a number of their excellencies sheikhs and cabinet members.

Qatar National Sport Day is observed on the second Tuesday of February of every year in compliance with an Emiri decision.

The event aims to raise awareness on the importance of pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

There are a host of sports available for the public to take part in. Some of them are cycling, swimming, football, basketball, tennis and taekwondo.

There are a total of 151 events this year from 135 different institutions.
The events took place in different areas across the country. The two areas with the most events, however, were Katara and Aspire Zone, which hosted 59 and 37 events, respectively.

The Qatari Olympic Committee (QOC) was particularly active yesterday and was keen on having all its sports associations open its doors to all who want to take part in Sport Day. QOC’s preparations aimed to make Qatar one big sports field today. The day is also a public holiday, allowing everyone to take part in any of the events.[GulfTimes]
