HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called for a negotiated settlement to the six-month-old Gulf crisis, but insisted any solution should not come at the expense of Qatar’s sovereignty and dignity.
“Qatar’s sovereignty is above all considerations. We want to resolve the rift but not at the expense of our sovereignty and dignity,” the Emir said at a joint Press conference, reported Gulf Times.
“If the brothers want to resolve the dispute, we’re ready. Any solution should be founded on a clear basis acceptable by all and the non-interference in the sovereignty of others,” he added.
HH The Emir said Qatar’s position has been clear from the beginning that the problem ‘if it exists at all’ should be resolved among the neighbours through dialogue.
“Qatari people have the right to know the reasons behind the blockade and the violence committed by the neighbours,” the Emir said, according to Qatar Tribune.
Regarding terrorism, Sheikh Tamim said Qatar was committed to fighting it.
“Reports circulating in some newspapers about Qatar’s association with terrorism are false and incorrect. Qatar and friendly countries across the world are united in the fight against terrorism because the Arab and Muslim countries are the first victim of this phenomenon,” he said. [QatarLiving]
